For everyone working in cash, this year’s major event will be the Global Currency Forum, gathering experts from manufacturing, distribution, supply, banking and more to showcase best practices and innovations and discuss the industry’s present and future.

Organised by the International Currency Association, the GCF will take place 30 September to 3 October at the Shangri-La Hotel in Muscat, Oman. Centred on the core theme of ‘the value cash brings to society’ it will explore impacts on financial inclusion and consumer choice, the evolving issues shaping the currency industry, and the perspective of new generations on cash, with related challenges and opportunities.

The event’s secondary theme is Joys of Cash, celebrating the contributions of physical money to the everyday lives of individuals, communities and wider economies. These are:

  1. Cash is Resilient, enabling payments offline, anytime by anyone.
  2. Cash is Inclusive, with no credit checks, age requirements or other barriers to use.
  3. Cash is Private, enabling anyone to spend or save without oversight or permission.
  4. Cash is Simple, offering a quick and intuitive way to buy and sell that makes payments more accessible.
  5. Cash is Fair, welcoming all and making payments a public service rather than a profit stream.
  6. Cash is Secure, making payments safe and instantaneous.
  7. Cash is Common Sense, helping teach financial basics and make budgeting easier.
  8. Cash is Friendly, showcasing a nation’s proudest achievements and bringing people together.
  9. Cash is Freedom, empowering anyone to pay without boundaries.

Visitors to the event will be able to view a director’s cut of these videos showing the full, joyful story of cash in modern societies. They will also have the opportunity to participate in debates and discussions on the critical questions surrounding the many roles cash fulfils, see new offerings presented by the supplier community and ultimately leave with fresh knowledge, contacts and inspiration.

Day 1—The Social Value of Cash—will illuminate the integral role cash plays in our modern society and its noteworthy impact on financial inclusion and consumer choice.

Day 2—The Current Challenges for Cash—will offer forward-looking discussion on the evolving issues facing the currency industry.

Day 3—Shaping Cash for the Future—will be a deep dive into the new generation’s perspective on cash and the challenges and opportunities arising from this.
